Sage and The Kale Next Door

Kale and Sage are the vegetables that bring up memories of fall, fun and holiday cheer. Sage brings up happy memories of celebrating with family and friends during the Thanksgiving holiday, our family typically uses sage in stuffing, to season the turkey, and in the delicious savory gravy.

Sage has many healing and comforting properties and has been used for centuries by communities across the world. Native people have used sage in healing ways but also in ceremonies as a blessing and purification. To learn a more about native culinary ways and practices I would recommend the book Turtle Island by Sean Sherman.  To me sage always makes the day better and I like to use my sage in hot and cold teas.

When making a healing and comforting tea it's important to use the highest quality available, and that is why I am super thankful for the Kale Next Door which is an amazing farm located in "The Park." Sarah the proprietor, uses the most holistic growing practices that benefit the land, grower and buyer. I am extremely grateful to be able to access her outstanding sage that is powerful, flavorful, sweet and delightful.

Brewing Sage tea is easy and fun, all you have to do is take hot water 8 ounces in a glass add a small amount of sage chopped up, and let it steep for about 2-5 minutes then strain and then enjoy. You can add honey, sugar, molasses as a sweeter to taste.

If you want an iced beverage you take the same steps and then cool and place in the fridge. I recommend brewing a large batch and then pour into smaller glass jars for individual drinking pleasure during the week.

Take some time to enjoy the beautiful fall weather, and sage tea while you are walking in "The Park".

Xoxo
